Ramit Nagpal, an Indian national, brings more than thirty-five years of legal experience, most recently as Managing Director, Deputy General Counsel at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). In that capacity, he led the Office of General Counsel’s work on corporate and institutional matters, donor partnerships, legal transition as well as the legal support for EBRD’s treasury operations. Prior to joining EBRD, Ramit was the Deputy General Counsel at Asian Development Bank (ADB) and had oversight of legal support for public and private sector operations, PPP advisory, treasury, institutional, and law and policy reform.
Ramit serves as the principal advisor for the IFC Managing Director, IFC Management Team, and IFC’s Board of Directors on all legal, business risk and compliance matters. In this role, he oversees IFC’s Legal Department, Business Risk and Compliance Department and the Nominee Directorship Center. The Legal Department is responsible for advising on all legal and policy issues affecting IFC’s business and providing legal services and solutions to enable the delivery of IFC’s investment and advisory program across industries and regions. The Business Risk and Compliance Department supports the development mission of IFC by establishing and reinforcing high standards of conduct and management of business risk covering, amongst others, integrity, tax, AML/CFT, sanctions, conflicts of interest, and data privacy. The Nominee Directorship Center guides equity teams in strategically and effectively exercising IFC’s nomination rights and supporting nominee directors in performing their Board duties.
Ramit has a deep understanding of cross-border development financing and international finance institution frameworks, and extensive experience in private sector, including at American Express and as partner at one of the largest law firms in India.
Ramit holds a Master of Laws degree in International Finance from Harvard Law School and two bachelor’s degrees - in Law and in Economics from the University of Delhi.
