Development Marketplace, supported by IFC, the Global Environment Facility, and other partners, recently organized an event to announce the winners of the 2008 Global Development Marketplace competition. The event was held September 24-26, 2008, at the World Bank Group's headquarters in Washington, D.C.
This year's theme is Sustainable Agriculture for Development. The competition will reward project ideas that address sustainable agriculture for development in three areas:
- Linking small-scale farmers to input-output markets
- Improving land access and tenure for the poor
- Promoting environmental services that agriculture can provide to address climate change and conserve biodiversity
The Development Marketplace is a competitive grant program that supports private enterprises in developing and delivering a wide range of innovative products that improve lives in developing countries.
